Design of Triple-band Bandpass Filter Using Trn-section Stepped-Impedance Resonators

Abstract: On the basis of tri-section stepped-impedance resonator (SIR), a novel triple-band bandpass filter (BPF) is presented, which has a triple-band feature of three passbands at desired frequencies and high out-of-band suppression. The new coupling scheme at the input and output can improve the performance of the BPF, and the hairpin structure helps to reduce the size. A microstrip filter was designed and simulated, proving the concept in an excellent way. The prototype of the BPF achieved insertion loss of 2.2, 1.… Show more

“…These transmission zeros improve selectivity and cause suppression of the higher order modes. Table 3 summarizes comparisons of the proposed filter with other reported tri-band filters [7][8][9][10][11][12] and [13]. The proposed filter has the advantages of low insertion loss and compact size.…”

“…The dual-band filters were reported in [4][5][6] using SLR. Tri-band microstrip planar filters were also reported in [7][8][9][10][11][12][13]. However, RF filter is a basic and important component in the modern wireless communication system, and bandpass filter with the features of micro-package, good performance, low cost and ease of use has been the focus of device miniaturization.…”

“…Also it is possible to achieve more compact dimensions using meandered connecting lines. As a shortcoming, the required impedance range of T-shape branch filters are wider than those in [17] and [20], but are still realizable with current PCB techniques.…”

“…Next, some detailed comparison between this work and other techniques as presented in [3,17] and [20] are given. As can be seen in Table 3, T-shaped branch tri-band filters gives a greater range of bandwidths, and wideband bandwidths can be easily achieved compared with tri-section SIR techniques.…”
