Design of the High Efficiency Circular Horn Feed for High-Power Microwave System

Abstract: Abstract-Design aspects of high efficiency profiled circular horn feeds with smooth wall for the high-power microwave (HPM) system are presented in this paper. The modal content at the circular aperture of horn necessary to closely approximate a linear polarized Gaussian distribution is established. Slope discontinuities along the axis of the horn are then used to generate the necessary waveguide modes with the appropriate amplitudes and phases at the aperture. The performance of the horn is calculated using t… Show more

“…For instance, E m0 of TE 11 mode is the minimum value within the modes of TM 11 , TE 12 , TM 12 , and TE 13 . The transversal electric field of the fundamental Gaussian beam can be mainly expressed by that of the mixture mode of TE 11 and TM 11 with amplitude ratio 1 : 0.65 and phase 0 : 180 [23]. It has been found by calculation that the amplitude of the transversal field of the mixed mode is higher than that of the single TE 11 mode.…”
