Design of Squirrel Cage Induction Motors for Traction Applications

Abstract: This paper highlights the design issues of high power induction motors for traction applications. The circuit modeling and analysis of an induction machine is carried out with the parameters calculated from physical dimensions. The modification of the parameters to incorporate the time harmonic effects of inverter PWM supply, flux and frequency variation effect during closed loop V/F control is investigated in detail. The design program of the machine is developed using MATLAB.
