Abstract-Enterprises are adopting the Internet of Things paradigm as a strategy to improve competitiveness. But enterprises also need to rely on their legacy systems, which are of vital importance to them and normally difficult to reconfigure or modify, their mere replacement being usually not affordable. These systems constitute, therefore, barriers to agility and competitiveness, raising the need to develop cost-effective ways for IoT adaptation. An approach for adapting legacy manufacturing systems into the IoT realm is proposed in this research. The methodology is twofold: an adaptation board is firstly designed to provide IoT connectivity, allowing to remotely invoke the "legacy" functionality as services. Then, the board itself can leverage the legacy system by developing additional functionalities inside it, as the update process is usually triggered by the need of new functionality from these systems. An experiment, which consists of adapting to IoT a small distribution line that is controlled by an aged Programmable Logic Controller, is developed to illustrate how straightforward, affordable and cost effective the adaptation approach is, allowing to holistically achieve a new system with more sophisticated functionality.

<span lang="EN-US">Linear permanent magnet synchronous motor (LPMSM) has emerged as a viable alternative to other linear motors for higher thrust lifting action. With the advancement of permanent magnets, LPMSM could contribute to energy conversation while also being suitable for applications requiring higher thrust, such as elevator. However, because the existing LPMSM is larger in size, it requires more space to be equipped with a household elevator. To address this issue, a new LPMSM with increased thrust capability has been proposed. The new LPMSM is modelled and analyzed in terms of back EMF and force in this paper. For improved performance, a symmetrical EMF vector is applied to the new LPMSM. In terms of back EMF and force, 4 LPMSM models are studied. According to the results, 6 slot 4 pole has the highest back EMF when compared to the others. As a suitable combination of slot and pole, a symmetrical EMF vector is the suggested LPMSM at the end of this research. </span>

PLC control is basically a computer designed to replace a relay-based system. SMK Negeri 3 Sorong as one of the Vocational High Schools in Sorong-West Papua has an Electricity Engineering Expertise Program that studies PLC mastery competencies, but from observations made by researchers at SMK Negeri 3 Sorong it turns out that it does not have adequate practice modules in the subject of applying PLC to control of industrial electric motors and there are also difficulties for teachers in these schools in providing learning competency in electric motor control techniques, especially in terms of application or practice. The implementation of the module that will be designed and applied is a learning medium that will help the process of practicing skills in electric motor control engineering competencies automatically using the PLC Omron CP1E module. This module is designed to pay attention to several important things as follows: (1). Practice module in accordance with existing competency standards, (2). Easy to use, and (3). Helps the level of understanding of teachers and students in applying it. This practical module is also used to study the working principle parts of the up / down motor control system with the addition of a simulation module of the lift motor work system using a limit switch that detects the presence of the lift box. At the PLC output, a motor power window and lift indicator are used which indicate the lift box is automatically running.
