Design of Slotted Ground Hexagonal Microstrip Patch Antenna and Gain Improvement With FSS Screen

Abstract: Abstract-Three hexagonal patch antennas are designed for circular polarization and experimentally validated. These antennas are labeled; simple hexagonal patch, hexagonal patch with slotted ground and hexagonal patch with parasitic element. The measured impedance bandwidths of the three antennas are 2% for the simple patch, 5.2% for the patch with slotted ground and 6.35% for the antenna with parasitic element. The axial ratio (measured) obtained is 4.73% for the patch with slotted ground and 3.33% for the hex… Show more

“…In this work, the hexagonal geometry is adopted as a radiating element to design the MIMO antenna systems since it has smaller size and can be designed by using variation of static energy below the square or circular monopole antennas [22]. In the MIMO system, each element is a hexagonal-ring monopole antenna (HRMA), and a CPW-fed line is used to feed this antenna.…”

“…The HISs and AMCs are also known as Electromagnetic Band Gap (EBG) structures and Frequency Selective Surfaces (FSS). FSSs are used to enhance the impedance bandwidth and gain of an antenna [4][5][6][7]. In addition, FSS superstrate is also used as a polarizer to get circular polarization in case of single source excitation and it can also rotate the linearly polarized waves by 90 • in a given frequency band [8][9][10][11].…”
