Design of Planar Arrays Composed by an Active Dipole Above a Ground Plane With Parasitic Elements

Abstract: Abstract-In this paper, several simple antenna designs based on the use of an active dipole placed above a ground plane with an array of parasitic dipoles are presented. The parasitic dipoles are used to modify the pattern of the active dipole yielding a pencil beam of moderate gain. The use of one active element provides a very simple feeding network that reduces the complexity of the antenna. The proposed technique optimizes the geometry and configuration of both active and parasitic elements. It is shown th… Show more

“…However, since the antenna is installed to the crane shoe, the available space is only 120 × 20 mm. It is possible to control the RF signal radiation pattern by using antenna array [17][18][19] and the lens aperture with the shielding structure [20]. However, there is not enough space to install the antenna array or shielding structure.…”

“…However, this method is not cost effective and also ends up in more complexity of their feeding network. Literature reports [12][13] different methods to optimize the spacing and length of antenna elements for linear and planar array of parasitic elements. This paper provides an alternative method: the active dipole is placed at the centre and surrounded by parasitic dipoles and it is done for a circular array.…”
