Starting from the fact that one of the global control strategies of the Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM), namely the Direct Torque Control (DTC) type control strategy, is characterised by the fact that the inner flux and torque control loop usually uses hysteresis ON-OFF type controllers and the oscillations introduced by them have to be cancelled out by the outer speed loop controller (which is usually a PI speed controller and whose performance is good around the global operating points and for relatively small variations of the external parameters and disturbances caused in particular by the load torque variation), while retaining the advantages of the DTC strategy, this paper presents the improvement of the performance of the PMSM sensorless control system using Proportional Integrator (PI), PI Equilibrium Optimizer Algorithm (EOA), Fractional Order (FO) PI, Tilt Integral Derivative (TID) and FO Lead-Lag for constant flux, and Sliding Mode Control (SMC) and FOSMC for variable flux. The performance indicators of the control system are the usual ones: response time, settling time, overshoot, steady-state error and speed ripple, plus another one given by the fractal dimension (FD) of the PMSM rotor speed signal, and the hypothesis that the FD of the controlled signal is higher when the control system provides better performance is verified. The paper also presents the basic equations of the PMSM, based on which the synthesis of integer and fractional controllers, the synthesis of an observer for estimating the PMSM rotor speed, electromagnetic torque and stator flux are presented. The comparison of the performance of the proposed control systems and the demonstration of the parametric robustness are performed by numerical simulations in Matlab/Simulink using Simscape Electrical and Fractional Order Modelling and Control (FOMCON). Real-time control based on an embedded system using a TMS320F28379D controller demonstrates the good performance of the PMSM sensorless control system based on the DTC strategy in a complete hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) implementation.

This paper presents the design of an indirect space vector control (ISVC) of electric vehicle (EV) driven by permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) utilizing the fuzzy logic control (FLC) approach for personnel transportation. Regulating the power flow in any vehicle is essential for optimal vehicle dynamics. A variety of propulsion motors are used in the system for such transmission. But PMSM is most efficient in terms of power density and torque. This study proposes a fuzzy controller based control technique for speed and torque control of PMSM drive and the simulated outcomes are compared with traditional PI controller under various motor loaded conditions. In this paper, EV dynamics are considered and ISVC strategy for PMSM is implemented. The PMSM is energized by space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) inverter. The system is modelled and simulated in MATLAB \ SIMULINK environment for steady speed-varying torque and varying speed-steady torque conditions. A wide range of speed drive profile is suggested for EV, consisting of accelerating, constant speed, decelerating, and rough road surface modes. Based on the results, the control technique was confirmed to be effective. The results indicate that the control scheme used is efficient throughout the wide range of speeds.

From the elements that contribute to increasing the reliability of the control system of a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM), could be enumerated the replacement of the speed transducers with software-implemented speed observers. On this basis, this paper focuses on the sensorless regulation of a PMSM using a Direct Torque Control (DTC) type strategy, in which a speed observer is used in combination with a Reinforcement Learning-Twin Delayed Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (RL-TD3) type agent to increase the accuracy of the PMSM rotor speed estimate. Simulated Annealing (SA) is also used to achieve superior performance of the velocity observer for optimal tuning of the PI-type velocity controller parameters. The latter can, after the training phase, provide correction signals to the speed observer so that the estimated speed is as close as possible to the estimated speed. The control structures, control algorithms, and operating equations of the PMSM, the control strategy of the DTC type, and the speed observer are presented in this paper. Numerical simulations carried out in the Matlab/Simulink programming environment validate the superiority of the PMSM rotor speed estimation performance in the case of the use of an RL-TD3-type agent in combination with a speed observer, compared to the case of the use of the speed observer alone.
