The objective of this article was to compile the computer tools available in the scientific literature aimed at diagnosis in dentistry. An scoping review research was conducted in Pubmed, Scopus and Web of Science. Were include, original researches type articles, Articles that reported the usefulness of a computer/technological tool that helps diagnosis in dental practice, Articles published in the last 20 years (period 2004- 2024) and written in English and Spanish. Online tool Rayyan was used to establish homogeneity in the review of the authors on a single online platform where they had access and could centralize the results. Variables were extracted from each article included in the study. A total of 12648 records were recuperated from data bases. After decantation process were included 39 reports that described 36 computer tools for diagnosis in dentistry. More informatic tools related to "Restorative Dentistry" have been developed than the rest of the specialties 14 (40%), Python was the predominant programming language, 83.3% of the tools were validated and 27.8% were free. Informatics tools in dentistry enhance diagnosis and treatment planning. However, a robust regulatory framework is needed for their validation before clinical implementation. Continuous training of dental professionals in these technologies is crucial to maximize their benefits and ensure optimal patient care. The need for more research to explore the potential of informatics applications in dentistry, their integration into existing health systems, and their accessibility in resource-limited areas is emphasized.

Background: Over the years, various researchers have attempted to compare digital cephalometry with the conventional manual approach. There is a need to comprehensively analyze the findings from the earlier studies and determine the potential advantages and limitations of each method. The present systematic review aimed to compare the accuracy of digital and manual tracing in cephalometric analysis for the identification of skeletal and dental landmarks. Methods: A systematic search was performed using the keywords “Digital” AND “Manual” AND “Cephalometry” to identify relevant studies published in the English language in the past decade. The electronic data resources consulted for the elaborate search included the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), MEDLINE, CINAHL, EMBASE, PsycINFO, Scopus, ERIC, and ScienceDirect with controlled vocabulary and free text terms. Results: A total of n = 20 studies were identified that fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria within the timeframe of 2013 to 2023. The data extracted from the included articles and corresponding meta-analyses are presented in the text. Conclusions: The findings of the present systematic review and meta-analysis revealed trends suggesting that digital tracing may offer reliable measurements for specific cephalometric parameters efficiently and accurately. Orthodontists must consider the potential benefits of digital cephalometry, including time-saving and user-friendliness.

PurposeThis study examines the application of Large Language Models (LLMs) in diagnosing jaw deformities, aiming to overcome the limitations of various diagnostic methods by harnessing the advanced capabilities of LLMs for enhanced data interpretation. The goal is to provide tools that simplify complex data analysis and make diagnostic processes more accessible and intuitive for clinical practitioners.MethodsAn experiment involving patients with jaw deformities was conducted, where cephalometric measurements (SNB Angle, Facial Angle, Mandibular Unit Length) were converted into text for LLM analysis. Multiple LLMs, including LLAMA-2 variants, GPT models, and the Gemini-Pro model, were evaluated against various methods (Threshold-based, Machine Learning Models) using balanced accuracy and F1-score.ResultsOur research demonstrates that larger LLMs efficiently adapt to diagnostic tasks, showing rapid performance saturation with minimal training examples and reducing ambiguous classification, which highlights their robust in-context learning abilities. The conversion of complex cephalometric measurements into intuitive text formats not only broadens the accessibility of the information but also enhances the interpretability, providing clinicians with clear and actionable insights.ConclusionIntegrating LLMs into the diagnosis of jaw deformities marks a significant advancement in making diagnostic processes more accessible and reducing reliance on specialized training. These models serve as valuable auxiliary tools, offering clear, understandable outputs that facilitate easier decision-making for clinicians, particularly those with less experience or in settings with limited access to specialized expertise. Future refinements and adaptations to include more comprehensive and medically specific datasets are expected to enhance the precision and utility of LLMs, potentially transforming the landscape of medical diagnostics.
