This letter presents a unique printed dipole antenna which can roughly cover an 80% fractional bandwidth (VSWR ≤ 3), and especially possess the omnidirectional radiation patterns similar to those of wire dipole antenna at its all resonant modes. The antenna is simple with a microstripfed structure which it is just composed of two arms with each one forming the shape of a conventional "inset-fed" rectangular patch antenna. At the lowest operation frequency for VSWR = 3, the antenna size is only 0.3λ × 0.008λ, showing its effectiveness in many applications of small antennas.

This paper presents a high gain dielectric resonance antenna (DRA) array for vehicular wireless communication and 5G system in millimeter wave band, which takes the advantage of low side lobe level (SLL). The planar antenna array is composed of 8 × 8 rectangular DRA elements, whose operation mode is the fundamental mode TE 111 . The beamforming weights of the array are designed based on the principle of Dolph-Chebyshev distribution to suppress the antenna SLL. The planar array consists of 8 linear sub-arrays, which are fed with standing-wave series resonance method respectively. The excitations of sub-array elements are precisely adjusted based on the aperture coupling model. Furthermore, the series-parallel hybrid feed network and parallel-cascaded feed network are applied to unequally feed the sub-arrays in accordance with Chebyshev polynomials. The measurement results of prototype validate the design solution of antenna array. The impedance bandwidth is 570 for reflection coefficients less than −10 dB, and the antenna gain and SLL are 20.5 ± 1 dBi and 20 dB, respectively. Due to the advantages of miniaturization and narrow beam, the proposed DRA antenna array is adequate for vehicle communication equipment.

A gain and bandwidth enhanced end‐fire dipole array antenna is presented. In order to improve the bandwidth of the original dipole array antenna, 2 parasitic metallic strips are closely placed at the end‐fire direction. Three pairs of I‐shaped resonators with different lengths are placed on the broadsides of the antenna to increase the gain. The measured results show that the antenna has bandwidth of 80.3% for voltage standing wave ratio <2 and a gain of 4.72‐7.3 dBi. When compared with the original design, the presented antenna has a 9.8% wider bandwidth and a gain improvement of 4.62 dB. The gain flatness and the frequency selectivity are also improved. The presented antenna is more favorable in wireless and radar applications compared with the original design.
