The article provides an overview of Brain Computer Interface (BCI) solutions for intelligent buildings. A significant topic from the smart cities point of view. That solution could be implemented as one of the human-building interfaces. The authors presented an analysis of the use of BCI in specific building systems. The article presents an analysis of BCI solutions in the context of controlling devices/systems included in the Building Management System (BMS). The Article confirms the possibility of using this method of communication between the user and the building's central unit. Despite many confirmations of repeatable device inspections, the article presents the challenges faced by the commercialization of the solution in buildings.

The rapid development of Internet technology and the spread of various smart devices have enabled the creation of a convenient environment used by people all around the world. It has become increasingly popular, with the technology known as the Internet of Things (IoT). However, both the development and proliferation of IoT technology have caused various problems such as personal information leakage and privacy violations due to attacks by hackers. Furthermore, countless devices are connected to the network in the sense that all things are connected to the Internet, and network attacks that have thus far been exploited in the existing PC environment are now also occurring frequently in the IoT environment. In fact, there have been many security incidents such as DDoS attacks involving the hacking of IP cameras, which are typical IoT devices, leakages of personal information and the monitoring of numerous persons without their consent. While attacks in the existing Internet environment were PC-based, we have confirmed that various smart devices used in the IoT environment—such as IP cameras and tablets—can be utilized and exploited for attacks on the network. Even though it is necessary to apply security solutions to IoT devices in order to prevent potential problems in the IoT environment, it is difficult to install and execute security solutions due to the inherent features of small devices with limited memory space and computational power in this aforementioned IoT environment, and it is also difficult to protect certificates and encryption keys due to easy physical access. Accordingly, this paper examines potential security threats in the IoT environment and proposes a security design and the development of an intelligent security framework designed to prevent them. The results of the performance evaluation of this study confirm that the proposed protocol is able to cope with various security threats in the network. Furthermore, from the perspective of energy efficiency, it was also possible to confirm that the proposed protocol is superior to other cryptographic protocols. Thus, it is expected to be effective if applied to the IoT environment.

Especially while they are communicating, the personal information of home occupants can leak out due to malicious eavesdropping from outside or inside entities, or user’s carelessness, which can eventually result in the breach of privacy to a great extent [ 26 ]. Therefore, it is necessary to build a secure channel for each interrelation of the components in the smart home—between the smart home sensors and the gateway; between the gateway and the service providers; between the smart home sensors and the service providers—to protect the occupants’ privacy from internal/external security threats and minimize unintended information exposure.…”

Abstract:With the ICT technology making great progress in the smart home environment, the ubiquitous environment is rapidly emerging all over the world, but problems are also increasing proportionally to the rapid growth of the smart home market such as multiplatform heterogeneity and new security threats. In addition, the smart home sensors have so low computing resources that they cannot process complicated computation tasks, which is required to create a proper security environment. A service provider also faces overhead in processing data from a rapidly increasing number of sensors. This paper aimed to propose a scheme to build infrastructure in which communication entities can securely authenticate and design security channel with physically unclonable PUFs and the TTP that smart home communication entities can rely on. In addition, we analyze and evaluate the proposed scheme for security and performance and prove that it can build secure channels with low resources. Finally, we expect that the proposed scheme can be helpful for secure communication with low resources in future smart home multiplatforms.
