Design of High-Isolation Compact Mimo Antenna for Uwb Application

Abstract: Abstract-In this paper, a compact multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) antenna is proposed for ultra wideband (UWB) communication. The UWB MIMO antenna consists of two identical monopole antenna elements with a comb-line structure on the ground plane to improve impedance matching and enhance isolation. Simulation and measurement have been analysed in terms of reflection coefficient, mutual coupling, dispersion diagram, radiation pattern, peak gain, efficiency and envelope correlation coefficient. “…An antenna with impedance bandwidth > 3.1 -10.6 GHz, mutual coupling between the two ports < -25dB and envelope correlation coefficient across the band < 0.001 along with a comb-line electromagnetic band-gap structure, altogether is to improve mutual coupling and isolation enhancement is proposed, figure 3 [10]. To have a compact MIMO antenna for portable wireless devices at the lower frequency band of 2.4 GHz, such as, WLAN is practical problem.…”

“…2.4 GHz) and also in the range of \UWB (3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz), two antenna with open L-shaped slot antenna is used which reduces the mutual coupling of between the antennas elements at a low frequency as low as WLAN (2.4 GHz) with a narrow slot inserted to the ground plane. Such antenna gains an impedance bandwidth of 2.0 GHz to 10.6 GHz with a mutual coupling as low as 20dB in case of WLAN and 18 dB throughout UWB applications [10].…”

“…A vertical stub attached to ground plane is placed in between the antenna elements for maintaining proper isolation between antenna ports. In literature, different isolation techniques such as use of strips beneath the patches [11], parasitic decoupling elements [12], T-shaped ground stub along with slot [13], electromagnetic bandgap structure [14], comb-line structure [15] applied in between the PMAs and placed side-byside to each other are also reported. Meanwhile, the quasi-selfcomplementary antennas arranged side-by-side without any extra isolation technique is also reported to form broadband MIMO antenna [16,17].…”
