Design of High Efficiency Chelate Fibers with an Amine Group To Remove Heavy Metal Ions and pH-Related FT-IR Analysis

Abstract: We have been searching a new ion exchange material in the form of a fiber which could get large advantages over the conventional bead type. In this approach, an effective chelating fiber is prepared by the coupling of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) and ethylenediamine. A synthesized ion exchange fiber (poly(acrylo-amidino ethylene amine), PAEA) achieved 7.8 mequiv/g of adsorption capacity in a batch test. The coupling process and capacity were confirmed through FT-IR, acid−base neutralization titration, ICP, IC, and … Show more

“…In our previous attempts, we modified SPE membrane disks with suitable compounds for selective determination of chromium [18][19]35 and lead 20 .Meanwhile, other investigators have successfully utilized these sorbents for quantitative extraction and monitoring trace amounts of lead [21][22][23] , copper [24][25][26] , silver [27][28] , mercury [29][30] , cadmium 31 , palladium 32 , Ce 33 and UO 2 34 .…”

“…The FT-IR spectra of the pure PAN and PAEA nanofibers are shown in Figure 2 stretching in the backbone of the PAN fiber) [12]. After the pure PAN nanofiber is modified, new peaks at 1561 and 1654 cm −1 correspond to -NH bending motion combined with a -CN stretching vibration of the C(=NH)-NHgroup appear and a strong broadband ranging from 3000 to 3500 cm −1 corresponds to the combination of the stretching vibration bands of amine (NH) group, suggesting that NH group was introduced on the surface of the PAEA nanofibers.…”
