Design of coplanar waveguide matching circuit for RF-CMOS front-end

Abstract: SUMMARYFor enhanced performance with smaller transceiver size at microwave frequencies, a design method is proposed in which the impedance matching network is included in the filter and integrated with the antenna. In this paper, a low noise amplifier (LNA) and a power amplifier (PA) are designed by the CMOS process. A method is presented in which the input and output impedances are matched on the chip by a matching circuit using distributed transmission lines. As the distributed transmission lines, coplanar w… Show more

“…These proposed impedance transformers would operate below 20 GHz and are several centimeters long. Also, miniaturized impedance matching circuits utilizing meandered coplanar waveguide (CPW) were demonstrated 4,5 for MMIC wireless RF front-end applications. In these structures, the λ/4 CPW transmission lines are folded together to achieve size reduction.…”

“…5 To realize the single metal layer, coplanar waveguide (CPW) is applied as a feed line. 6,7 CPW structure is suitable for three dimensional (3D) integration or stacking of the multilayer of the printed circuit board. Therefore, the antenna which is composed of a single metal layer is required for cost effective and thin devices.…”

“…A reconfigurable tuner placed at the input of a low noise amplifier improves the noise figure, gain and linearity as the operating frequency is varied. As the output programmable tuner of a power amplifier, reconfigurable tuners can improve the power gain, efficiency and linearity as the frequency band, modulation scheme or power level is varied [1][2][3]. Implementing reconfigurable matching networks based on microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) has been previously reported [4][5][6].…”
