Design of Compact UHF-RFID Tag Antenna with Meander Line Technique

Abstract: In this paper, a compact UHF RFID tag antenna that can operate at Malaysia UHF RFID frequency (860 MHz – 960MHz) is proposed. The antenna with a common geometry structure without any shorting pin consists of 90degree angled line (meander line) and double T-match structure. The proposed antenna has been designed and simulated using CST Simulation software. The proposed tag antenna design shows a good performance in terms of size, gain and impedance with a dimension of 36 mm × 25 mm × 1.6 mm. The simulated gain … Show more

“…Te proposed tag is observed to exhibit a longer read range than that of tags designed in [37][38][39][40][41][42][43][44][45]. In addition, the size of the proposed tag is smaller than the designed tags in [37,41,[43][44][45][46][47].…”

“…Another important electrical characteristic that is related to the reactance value is the Q factor of the antenna. The Q factor is given by the ratio of reactance to input resistance (R in ) [9], as given by (29). The R in values in Table 4 can be used for structures A, B, and C. The X D and X C values shown in Fig.…”

“…Here, Equations ( 16) and ( 24) are used for X C and X D , respectively. However, the Q factor is closely related to the bandwidth (BW) as given by (30) [9].…”

“…The objective of the design was to increase the efficiency of the RFID system without compromising the cost. The meander line antenna is used to substitute a straight dipole antenna in the system for size reduction of the antenna [16]. The short dipole antenna and the meander line design have an inductive shortening loop for the matching section.…”
