Design of chitosan/PSf self‐assembly membrane to mitigate fouling and enhance performance in trypsin separation

Abstract: BACKGROUND: Membrane fouling in downstream processing has become a major obstacle in enzyme production. The use of a membrane with high surface hydrophilicity may be an acceptable way to overcome this problem. In this study, the effects of dip time on chitosan incorporation were investigated to produce a low fouling ultrafiltration membrane for trypsin separation.

“…Self‐assembly of natural polysaccharides has proved to be a good method for the preparation of gylcosylated membranes. Through this method, Yu et al has prepared glycosylated poly( l ‐lactic acid), poly(tetramethylene adipate‐ co ‐terephthalate), and polysulfone (PSF) membranes with these natural charged polysaccharides, respectively.…”

“…Chitosan has been employed for adsorption of metal ion, pesticides, endocrine disruptors, drugs, tincture agents, dyes and pigments (Krajewska 2005). Chitosan is also found to be non-toxic and biodegradable (Boributh et al 2009;Hamzah et al 2012). The eco-friendly biopolymer sorbent possesses improved phase separation and acts as very useful and excellent material for treating wastewater (Le Roux et al 2005).…”
