Design of broadband terahertz vector and vortex beams: II. Holographic assessment

Abstract: In this paper, we demonstrate the capabilities of the terahertz pulse time-domain holography in visualisation, simulation, and assessment of broadband THz vortex beam formation dynamics upon its shaping by elements of beam converter, and further propagation and manipulation. By adding Jones matrix formalism to describe broadband optical elements, we highlight the differences in the spatial-spectral and spatio-temporal structure of the formed vortex and vector beams dependence on the modulator used and visualis… Show more

“…In our simulations, we used a simple scalar approach in which the THz pulses emitted from each uniform region were treated separately due to the C3 polarization rotation, which implies the emission of orthogonal polarizations, and hence, the signals from the two regions do not interfere. A more general approach involving Jones matrices formalism for THz radiation propagation and its interaction with beam-shaping devices was discussed elsewhere …”

“…46,47 In addition, GI was combined with plasmonic THz microscopy. 48 Formation of spatially defined fields in the THz frequency range remains relevant both from the methodological point of view 49 and from the positions of the applications, 50 and many studies are aimed at the development of THz spatial light modulators. 51,52 Despite the narrow frequency range of the modulation, at the certain conditions is possible to implement GI, for instance, using two wavelengths.…”

“…The superposition of two LP lights with light vectors pointing in opposite directions can be used to depict any type of polarized light by adding Jones matrix formalism to describe broadband optical elements such as. 41 The polarization state of the light wave is determined by the amplitude ratio and PD of these two elements. Here, to facilitate the theoretical analysis, we set the rotation angle θ to 0; the long axis of elliptical cylinder is parallel to the x axis and the short axis is along the y axis.…”
