Design of a Solar AC System Including a PCM Storage for Sustainable Resorts in Tropical Region

Abstract: Environmental concerns worldwide (climate change, global warming, etc.) are pushing to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels. The building sector is responsible for a third of greenhouse gas emissions (40% in France). In tropical countries, the main share of energy consumption in buildings is due to air conditioning systems. Indeed, in a resort of high standing, 60% of energy consumption is due to air conditioning. In the Indonesian context, which welcomes growing real estate projects on more or less isolated… Show more

“…The earliest design process involved the basic calculation of the food waste volume capacity, the heating capacity, and the power needed from the auxiliary components. The theoretical calculation concept had been applied in other design processes, such as in calculating the thermodynamic process to design a geothermal power plant 20) and solar AC system 21) , with the combination of simulation through designing a micropump 22) , and designing a wind turbine for low Reynolds number 23) .…”

“…The Indonesian tropical climate does not naturally provide comfortable indoor temperature and humidity. The appropriate cooling system and indoor air distribution must be made to ensure the satisfaction of occupants within the thermal environment, especially in a society accustomed to mechanical indoor air conditioning systems [15], [17] where 60% of energy consumption in the built environment is consumed by air conditioning systems [18].…”
