The issue of solitary senior citizens dying alone has become serious in advanced countries where the average lifespan of their citizens is continuously extending due to improved health care and diet. Such unattended deaths are considered to be one of the major issues pertaining to the ever-growing number of senior citizens so that many research studies have been conducted to find a solution to mitigate the situation. The framework proposed in this study allows monitoring of electric power consumption patterns of solitary senior citizens. At the same time, a test bed was constructed to estimate the performance of the framework. The results from the test bed experiment revealed that the framework was effective, flexible, and expandable for actual implementation. This framework is the product of these research studies describing individual designs and the method of implementing them for actual application. This research has confirmed that the framework for an extendable solitary senior citizens care system can be designed and implemented at low cost and the operations between system components worked smoothly while interacting flexibly. In particular, the rate of these old people dying alone in poor areas was above normal so that the proposed system would be quite meaningful to society as it helps in monitoring their safety by locating the whereabouts of those people with dementia or checking their daily routines, for example.

To optimize the management of operational and technical functions in the smart home (SH) and for use of effective methods of energy management in SH, it is generally necessary to provide statistics and process relevant data from operational measurement devices. This chapter describes the use of modern methods for statistical data processing using regression analysis techniques. The aim of the analysis is to describe the dependence of single measured values using an appropriate mathematical model that can be efficiently implemented in the control system of SH. This model can be used for the functions of supervision and diagnostics of optimum comfort setting inside the indoor environment of SH. Real experimental measurements of objective parameters of the indoor environment were realized in the selected rooms of unique wooden building in the passive standard. The researched methods were experimentally verified by classifying the behavior of lighting in the SH-selected rooms under specified conditions. The achieved experimental results will be used for the operating and technical functions control in SH for reducing the building operating costs.

This article describes the development of a visualization application software used to control operational and technical functions in the Smart Home system or Smart Home Care system via the wireless xComfort control system. Graphic visualization of a home electrical control system gives the user unprecedented comfort when controlling home systems. The user is able to obtain the information necessary to optimise the management of operational and technical functions in the building as well as information about energy consumption. Selected definitions of requirements for the visualization system, online access via the Internet, control via USB interface, and control requirements executed via mobile phone are the reasons why these technical elements were selected. This article describes their mutual relations, functions and connections within the system. At the end of this article we propose a method to test the reliability of the created software application as well as the wireless xComfort system under different conditions which stimulate different implementation methods applicable to a real building/ apartment unit. Measurement results can be used for the actual installation process and for optimal implementation of the active elements of the wireless system.
