Design of a parabolic solar collector system for seawater desalination in Gaza

Abstract: A B S T R A C TThis paper presents the design of a parabolic-trough solar collector system for seawater desalination in Gaza, collector-aperture and rim-angle optimization together with the receiver-diameter selection are presented. A comparison of concentrating collectors against conventional flat-plate collectors is presented. It is shown that for large-scale water production the parabolic-trough collectors are more efficient than the flat plate ones. The analysis considers visible radiation transfer, IR rad… Show more

“…Se han estudiado mucho los mecanismos de transferencia de masa y energía y se han derivado correlaciones para conocer su operación [31,35,36,37,38]. Se han clasificado como pasivos a aquellos que no tienen otra fuente de energía o sistema de recuperación de calor, aparte del sol y activos a aquellos que las emplean [39], los cuales mejoran su productividad [35,40,41].…”

“…16 At the mean time, some studies focused on the comparison procedure of the parabolic and flat-plate collectors. 17,18 In a different work, for instance, Brooks and his colleagues studied the performance of evacuated glass shielded receiver and un-shielded receiver and they proved that the efficiencies became nearly equal to each other. 19 However, they also urged that the glass shielded receivers were better to protect the heat in the system.…”
