Design of a novel electrostatic ion storage ring at KACST

Abstract: Abstract.A new electrostatic storage ring for beams at energies up to 30keV. q is currently under 7 development at the National Centre for Mathematics and Physics (NCMP), King Abdulaziz City for Science 8 and Technology (KACST). The ring design is based on the existing electrostatic storage rings, but stretches 9 significantly beyond them in that it shall form the core of a unique flexible experimental facility at KACST. 10The lattice of this ring has been designed in a way that enables the use of state-of-the… Show more

“…9 Furthermore, a new electrostatic ring is being built at King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology in Riyadh. 10 In parallel with the development of the larger electrostatic storage rings there has been a development of much smaller and compact devices in the form of electrostatic ionbeam traps (EIBTs). In these traps, the ions are moving with keV kinetic energies between two focusing electrostatic mirrors.…”

“…9,15 Additional electrostatic storage rings and a) E-mail: afrl.rvborgmailbox@kirtland.af.mil traps are currently being developed. 11,[16][17][18][19][20][21] In particular, the Double Electrostatic Storage Ion Ring in Stockholm 16,22 will hopefully provide benchmark MN measurements over a wide range of energies for comparison with the flowing afterglow measurements described here.…”
