Design of a Novel Broadband Emc Double Ridged Guide Horn Antenna

Abstract: An improved double ridged horn antenna (DRHA) is proposed in this paper. By adding the dielectric lens at the aperture of the horn, radiation pattern distortion arising in the high frequency band of conventional DRHA is improved, which leads to higher radiation gain. Meanwhile, ridge slot loading contributes to better impedance matching characteristic, broadening the impedance bandwidth efficiently. The improved antenna is fabricated and measured, with the measured results consist with the simulation perfectly… Show more

“…Initially, the focus was on solving the pattern deterioration problem, which resulted in several improved designs [12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20]. Further work included manufacturing tolerance and sensitivity studies [21,22], extending the improvements to other frequency bands [23][24][25], and improvements in performance by investigating the ridge width, ridge profile, launcher cavity, and sidewalls [26][27][28][29]. Some of the improvements also resulted in slightly wider bandwidths in the order of 20:1 and 25:1 [17,19,24,27].…”

“…Although different ridge curvatures have been studied [22][23][24][25], most of them were generally based on exponential tapers with an additional linear term with slope. The general equation can be written as follows:…”

“…This additional taper term is determined experimentally, and it provides a significant improvement in impedance matching for the first octave of the frequency band and has little effect elsewhere [2]. In the literature, the coefficients were determined completely empirical, however, it is possible to find out the values of the coefficients in (1) using the following equation [25]:…”
