Design of a Control Chart Using Extended EWMA Statistic

Abstract: In the present paper, we propose a control chart based on extended exponentially weighted moving average (EEWMA) statistic to detect a quick shift in the mean. The mean and variance expression of the proposed EEWMA statistic are derived. The proposed EEWMA statistic is unbiased and simulation results show a smaller variance as compared to the traditional EWMA. The performance of the proposed control chart with the existing chart based on the EWMA statistic is evaluated in terms of average run length (ARL). Var… Show more

“…In addition, Patel et al [7]-proposed the Modified Exponentially Weighted Moving Average (Modified EWMA) chart that is effective at detecting small size shift quickly for observations both autocorrelation and independently normally distribution. Later, Neveed et al [8] proposed the Extended Exponentially Weighted Moving Average (EEWMA) chart that performed better than other control charts for detecting small shifts in the mean of a monitored process.…”

“…In the present paper, we have applied the nonparametric test like statistical process control (SPC) method to analyze temperature and precipitation across India. This nonparametric method is widely used in detecting the smaller shift in the climatic change (Naveed et al 2018 ; Justin et al 2012 ; Eyvazian et al 2008 ). By exploring the literature, we found that no study as of yet utilizes the SPC chart for comparing and monitoring climatic variables.…”
