Design of a Compact UWB Antenna with Triple Band-Notched Characteristics

Abstract: A new compact ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna with triband-notched characteristics is presented. The structure of the proposed antenna is simple and symmetric. A modified ground is introduced to obtain a wide impedance bandwidth of 2.9–13.4 GHz withS11<-10 dB. By inserting two arc-shaped slots in the radiation patch, two sharp bands of 3.3–3.7 GHz and 5.15–5.35 GHz are notched. The notch band of 7.25–7.75 GHz is achieved by etching a U-shaped slot in the ground plane. The notched bands can be controlled, respe… Show more

“…5(b), the surface currents are concentrated more on L 1 stub, and the direction is opposite to the remaining patch currents that lead to a notch band at WiMAX band. The stub length is chosen equal to λ g /4 that act as a short circuit and creates a notch band at WiMAX [26], [31]. Due to this reason the currents in patch are opposite the patch currents.…”

“…Further, three notches can also be obtained by modifying radiator [17] with several slots. U-shaped type slots in ground and arc shaped slots [18] in the radiators are used to obtain notches in radiators to obtain triple band notches. Radiator and ground plane [19] etched with c-shaped slots obtain triple notches.…”

“…In [18], a triple band notched antenna is obtained using C-shaped slots in the radiator and ground plane. In [19], a triple band notched antenna is obtained using an arcshaped slot in the radiator and a U-shaped slot in the ground plane. Problem with these approaches is that all approaches are antenna design specific and give poor control on notch location and width.…”
