Design Factors in the Use of Isolated Word Recognition for Speech Therapy

Abstract

Recent advances In technology have presented tremendous potential for providing assistance to individuals suffering from a variety of disabilities. At the Computer Speech Research laboratory, low-cost microcomputers and vocal input/output devices are being utilized to deal with several aspects of these problems. This paper discusses an application in which computer speech input is used to provide training assistance in the speech therapy environment. Results of a pilot utilizing discriminant analysis techniques are presented and discussed.
