The manual decortication process of charoli seeds by beating the dried seeds on the ground with a hand hammer or stone and, by domestic grinder is a laborious, inefficient, time‐consuming as well as uneconomical process. Therefore, an attempt has been taken toward the automation of the charoli decortication process. The decorticator performance was evaluated at three levels of disc speeds, disc clearances, and different moisture levels of charoli seed viz. 197, 246, and 286 rpm; 6, 7, and 8 mm; and 7.83, 8.57; and 9.04% wb, respectively. The selected input parameters were optimized by using the response surface methodology (RSM). The optimum value of disc speed, disc clearance, and seed moisture content was found to be 197 rpm, 7 mm, and 9.04% (wb), respectively. The corresponding response values in terms of decorticating efficiency, whole kernel, and broken kernel percentage at optimum conditions were recorded as 92.5, 21.6, and 3%, respectively. Novelty impact statement The decorticating capacity of the developed decorticator was found to be 70 kg per hour which was higher than the existing decorticator. Since the developed machine was automatically operated and each unit operation was sequentially and continuously carried out with no manual intervention, the ideal time in each decortication step was absent and subsequently, higher capacity was achieved. The efficiency of the decorticator was found to be 92.5%. The higher capacity and kernel recovery with no human drudgery and lower cost of decortication imply the significance of the development of the machine.

It has become critical to build a de-stoning machine that can be used in our homes whenever we need it. As a result, the goal of this research was to develop and build a wet-method household rice destoning equipment. The design was built utilizing locally accessible materials and was based on the notion of material separation using water as a medium of separation. A reservoir, hopper, de-stoning chamber, washing chamber, impeller, water filter, and brush drum make up the machine. The produced machine was powered by a 1 horsepower variable electric motor that communicated the rotating motion of the driving pulley to the driven pulley, which was supported by bearings, through a V-belt. The machine was built and tested, and it was discovered that 2kg/10minutes and 20.04kg/hour of processed rice were destoned at a de-stoning speed of 400rpm, which is the optimal speed for maximum speed separation. The destoning machine's effectiveness in terms of stone removal is approximately approaching 100 percent free of impurities, making it ideal for residential usage. This discovery elucidates the potential to deal with the challenges of stone removal from locally produced rice using hand and manual method, which are inefficient, time and energy wastage, it acts as a rice processing industry innovation.

Another of the products that more is used for sifting is the grains of maize, the maize is widely used for animal feeding but on many occasions, this one remains with particles that diminish its quality and at the same time they can affect the animals, for this reason with the sifting it is sought to diminish the number of unwanted particles (Mugabi et al, 2019), also the sieving of corn is used to measure the kinetics of water absorption and wet milling of the same (Uriarte-Aceves et al, 2019, 2020) looking for which were the best conditions for the work of wet milling of corn.…”

In the agroindustry, sieving is a unit operation of great value, this work aims to make a literature review on sieving in cereals, a search equation was carried out in the Scopus database with the keywords sieve, screen, food process, and cereal that resulted in 132 articles and 174 patents. Of the articles, 44 were directly related to sieving and 14 more had something to do with sieving; of the patents, in the last 10 years only 7 were directly related to sieving. To find new trends, raw materials, patent analysis, and information analysis, tables were built with name, year, author, keywords, countries, quartile, journal, relationship with the agroindustry, and purpose. Among the most important conclusions was the application of sieving in raw materials such as Rice, Corn, Wheat, Cotton, Millet, Quinoa, Almonds, Barley, Potato, Yucca, Microorganisms, Oats, Cotton, Protein, Peppers, and Chia Seed. Furthermore, the use of rotating and vibrating sieves was identified, and also their positive effects on the physicochemical, standardization, and classification of raw materials were identified. The different types of equipment or methods focused on sieving, that has been granted use or design patent, were also recognized.
