In order to keep abreast of the rapidly expanding field of computer networks, it was felt that a comprehensive bibliography was needed, and thus this project was initiated. This list includes most available references that have been published through the end of 1972. While the emphasis has been on the design of store and forward computer networks (e.g. the ARPA Network), this list includes many related papers in the areas of data comunications, time sharing systems, computer management and information systems. The Index is divided into-three sections, a KWIC Index, an Author Index and a Bibliography.Section 1: KWIC Index. This section gives a key word in context (KWIC) listing of all titles in the Bibliography. Each entry has three parts: a word in the title, a bibliography number, and the title. The bibliography number is represented by the first five letters of the author's last name, and the year of publication. Multiple publications by the same author in a given year are differentiated by the addition of a.single letter following the year of publication. In order to minimize the size of the list, many small words were omitted (e.g. a , an, the, in, on), and the word "computer" was also omitted due to the large number of entries using that word. The term "computer network" was also considered to be a single word. other pairs of words grouped as a single unit include data communications, operating system, resource sharing and time sharing. and a bibliography number corresponding to the complete citation in Section 3.Section 3 : Bibliography. This section lists the complete title of all papers that have been collected, along with a reference to that paper and the date of publication. If the paper has been reviewed by "Computing Reviews", then this is denoted by (CR XXXXX YY/ZZ) where XXXXX is the review number, and YY and Z Z are the month and year, respectively, of the review.
