Design and Validation of a Compressor for a New Generation of Heavy-Duty Gas Turbines

Abstract: Siemens H-Class. Siemens has developed the world-largest H-class Gas Turbine (SGT™) that sets unparalleled standards for high efficiency, low life cycle costs and operating flexibility. With a power output of 340+ MW, the SGT5–8000H gas turbine will be the primary driver of the new Siemens Combined Cycle Power Plant (SCC™) for the 50 Hz market, the SCC5–8000H, with an output of 530+ MW at more than 60% efficiency. After extensive lab and component testing, the prototype has been shipped to the power plant for … Show more

“…Due to the high cost of electricity transmission infrastructure with the mainland, the electricity of islands cannot be obtained from the mainland, which requires islands to generate their own electricity [1]. Gas turbines, as one of the important power sources for island power plants [2], have the advantages of high efficiency, high pressure ratio, and low pollution [3], and the current modular structure of gas turbines is easy to be transported and maintained [4], which makes it suitable for constructing power plants on the limited land on islands. Offshore platforms have a very high demand for electricity [5] and usually use gas turbines to generate electricity.…”

“…To avoid excessive NOx emissions, lean premixed flames have been widely adopted in combustors under elevated temperature and pressure conditions. For a typical H class gas turbine, the pressure ratio of the compressor is 19–23, and therefore the inlet temperature to the combustor is about 690–750 K when the air compression process is regarded as an isentropic process. Much attention has been paid to the topic of the laminar flame speed of methane–air mixtures since it is an important factor in the combustor design.…”

“…Their design strategy improved the cascade properties in the base- and part-load operations. Their method, called high performance airfoils (HPA), has been used in the new developed machines (Eulitz et al , 2007).…”
