Design and simulation of a semiconductor detector-based Compton imaging system with efficiency analysis

Abstract: In recent years, Compton cameras that use electronic collimators have become common. One or more scatterer detectors and an absorber detector make up the Compton camera, which is sensitive to the energy and location of scattered gamma rays. It predicts the distribution of gamma-ray sources by reflecting all valid events in the image space using conical surfaces. Compton cameras are designed for specific applications and image reconstruction using various methods. Based on studies on the efficiency of the Compt… Show more

“…It is worth noting that Cs-137 (662 keV) gamma rays undergo scattering from Si into Ge. In our previous work, we utilized this same stationary photon model to study factors influencing the detection efficiency of a Compton camera [41,45]. For the simulation, the absorber and scatterer detectors were pixelated using the ʺG4PVReplicaʺ function in the geometry section of Geant4.…”

“…However, both typical Si & Ge semiconductor and NaI (Tl) scintillation detectors have drawbacks due to their low detection e ciencies and their low intrinsic resolution. Si & Ge semiconductors are expensive and need more cooling systems as well [9][10][11]. In recent years, to overcome these limitations, Cadmium Telluride (CdTe) & Cadmium Zinc Telluride (CZT) semiconductor detectors were developed.…”
