Design and Realization of a Flat-Top Shaped-Beam Antenna Array

Abstract: Abstract-The design and realization of a ten-element shaped-beam antenna array are presented. A flat-top pattern in the main beam which allows a well-proportioned power distribution in desired zone is achieved by optimizing the amplitudes and phases of array elements using genetic algorithm. Being different from the most optimization in reported literatures, the proposed synthesis has taken the actual element patterns but identical and isotropic ones into account, which can reduce the error between computation… Show more

“…number, and HPBW respectively stand for polarization, element number, and half-power beamwidth of an array antenna. In [25] and [26], they formed the feeding network with the microstrip-line dividers based on parallel feed. Parallel feed is very useful in terms of isolation between ports.…”

“…Hence, the antennas with a flat pattern have been used in modern communication systems to serve uniform signal strength within the desired coverage area. Adaptive phased array antennas can provide flat-top radiation patterns by controlling the amplitude and phase of the individual antenna elements [1][2][3][4]. The amplitude and phases of the antenna elements are synthesized using various optimization algorithms.…”

“…Moreover, compact antennas for minimizing the environment impact, made with low‐cost materials and ease of implementation and matching have been desired. However, sectored antennas are usually designed with the help of the reflectors [13–17]. One common technique of sectored antenna is to place a flat conducting reflector at a fixed distance away from antenna [18, 19].…”
