Design and performance analysis of B-series propeller for traditional purse seine boat in the north coastal region of Central Java Indonesia

Abstract: In the North Coastal Region of Central Java, the traditional fi shing boat is a primary object that generates the economics activities of the social community. As an artisanal fi shery, the boats generally adopt the tradition to build technique from their predecessor. Therefore the lack of practice to determine the propeller design which considered the hydrodynamic relation within the boat dimension, hull form geometry and propeller is observed. Presently, there is no a standard propeller design that particula… Show more

“…Although CFD has been extensively used for modern yacht and ship designs, its application to traditional fishing boats is less common. Traditional fishing boats often rely on empirical knowledge and inherited design practices, which may not always consider the hydrodynamic interactions between the hull, sail, and surrounding fluids [18]. Moreover, the integration of sails as a hybrid propulsion system with fishing boat engines to enhance fuel efficiency and reduce emissions is a relatively novel concept that has not been widely studied [11].…”

“…The prediction results of the total resistance of the ship are needed as a basis for modeling the propeller loading equation, which is formulated in a mathematical model that relates the characteristics of resistance and ship speed with a 2nd-order polynomial regression model as Eq. (7) (7)…”

“…The 30 GT fishing vessels produced by fishing communities along Indonesian waters generally use a diesel engine as the driving force for the ship, the determination of which is based solely on the experience of the artisans and the availability of machinery components on the market. This factor makes it impossible to achieve the vessel speed [5][6][7], The low propulsion efficiency of fishing vessels, in addition to impacting the high use of fuel oil consumption [8], also affects the vibration and noise generated. Furthermore, this impact of vibration and noise can cause damage to structures, machinery equipment, and crew discomfort [9], Researchers have made several efforts to optimize the propulsion efficiency of fishing vessels, including redesigning the propeller [10] and rearranging the propeller placement [11 13], In their research, Muhammad et al [14] stated that the order of asymmetric propellers, which is widely applied to some fishing vessels, affects 1.…”

“…Dispersants increase the thermal conductivity of oil and slow down the process of paraffin crystallization. Due to the increase in duration for paraffin crystals being in a dispersed suspended state, the possibility of removal thereof from the well equipment at the wellhead increases (Windyandari et al, 2018;).…”
