Design and Optimization of Enhanced Magnitude and Phase Response IIR Full-Band Digital Differentiator and Integrator Using the Cuckoo Search Algorithm

Abstract: Design of full-band infinite impulse response (IIR) digital differentiator (DD) and digital integrator (DI) based on the L k -norm and the min-max optimality criteria have been demonstrated in literature. However, the designed IIR DDs and DIs using these criteria do not have linear phase or have unsatisfactory magnitude response. In this paper, a novel approach to design, optimize and improve the magnitude response and the linearity of the phase response of IIR DD and DI using the cuckoo search (CS) optimizati… Show more

“…Some cuckoo species lays their eggs in other bird nests at first. However, host birds may discover that these eggs are not their own (with a probability of p a ) and may either destroy or abandon them [57]. This indicates that the number of nests will decrease with each generation, thus it is believed that the hosting bird that abandoned his nest would establish a new nest in a different area therefore maintaining the number of nests constant between generations and introducing variation to the CS algorithm via fresh nest location [58].…”

“…The filter used in the work has limitations in that it attenuates the frequencies that are below the cutoff range. Ababneh and Khodier [21] proposed the cuckoo search (CS) optimization technique to improve the magnitude and linearity of the phase response, leading to better denoising of medical images. The main issue in medical image denoising is to preserve the feature quality for disease diagnosis, such as tumor detection [22].…”
