Design and implementation of a digital control IC for driving multiple cold cathode fluorescent lamps

Abstract: This study designs and develops a digital control integrated circuit (IC) for driving circuits operating multiple cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFLs). The control IC adopts an external crystal oscillator for the IC's external frequency to provide the driving circuits a fixed frequency. Inside the IC, two control loops are designed, under synchronized operation frequencies, for a boost regulator and an inverter. The main function of the boost regulator control loop is to supply a steady DC voltage for the in… Show more

“…Nowadays, digital control of power electronics system has become more and more popular and found wide applications in rectifiers or power-factor-correction systems [1][2][3], switching dc-dc converters [4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11], inverter systems [11][12][13][14][15], and so on. Compared with analog control, digital control offers immunity to component variations, flexibility to implement sophisticated control schemes, potentially faster design process, and time-to-market.…”
