Design and implementation of a luminometer: measuring bioluminescence

Abstract: The luminometer instrument performs bioluminescence assays by recording the light produced by a biochemical reaction. This paper deals with the nature of the reactions, the optical conf iquration of the instrument and the sensor system. The choice of a photomultiplier tube (PMT) as a detector and the design of the PMT electronics are discussed. Some measurement results from the breadboard system are presented.
