The concept of an autonomous rover system to perform maintenance, investigations, and data collection in remote or inaccessible locations has seen an increased demand recently. In this work, an autonomous rover is developed to detect radioactive contamination. The rover utilizes a gas tube radiation detector as an active sensing element and onboard modules to command and control the rover, such as a GNSS receiver, Autopilot controller, and a microcontroller as an onboard controller a communication module. The rover could be controlled by a human operator or autonomous control. In both cases, the operator would be far away from the scene. The rover has many potentially valuable applications, such as radiometric survey and mapping, locating survivors, or aiding in recovering victims after a CBRN disaster. This paper discusses the concept of operations and the design of the autonomous rover.

SDN is a model that separates the control and the data levels in an arrangement to enhance capability to program and configure the network in a more agile and efficient manner. Multiple controller modules have been used in the SDN engineering to empower programmable and adaptable configurations such as improving scalability and reliability. The distance and time calculations and other performance measures have to be considered in solving the Multi-Controller Position Problem (MCPP). This paper investigates the use of metaheuristic algorithms to build an MCPP mathematical model. Both the symmetric Harmony Search (HS) modelling and the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm are considered in this respect. Thus, our hybrid approach is proposed and known as Harmony Search with Particle Swarm Optimization (HSPSO) is applied and we compared the extracted results with the state-of-the-art techniques in the previous literature. Besides the development of the mathematical model, a simulation study has been done considering the relevant parameters including the link distance description and the access time between the SDN entities. The console simulation uses NetBeans with CloudsimSDN procedure files in the SDN-based cloud environment.

Design and Fabrication of a Smart Monitoring System for Liquefied Petroleum Gas-Operated Cars Based on Global System Mobile

In this paper, a low-cost smart system is designed and fabricated to monitor gas leakage in LPG-based cars. The implemented system consists of three gas sensors installed in the joints of the gas pipes, gas cylinders, and injectors for the purpose of gas leak monitoring. In addition, the LM 35 temperature sensor is situated over the gas cylinder to monitor its temperature. The implemented system can provide three types of alarm: the first type sends a text message to the car owner’s phone and emits an audible alarm signal. The message reaches the service center also. The second type sends messages via Bluetooth to the user’s phone or to the smart screen on the vehicle’s dashboard, with an alert that the engine must be turned off (emergency case). The last warning sends an overheating alarm signal, utilizing a temperature sensor when the temperature of the gas cylinder exceeds 50°C to provide protection and prevent a possible explosion. In practice, it was found that gas sensors should be placed less than 5 cm from the monitored site, and the best performance at work was under 55°C. It was also found that the best performance of the GSM unit is under 55°C.
