Design and flow field analysis of impregnated diamond bit for seafloor drill in soft-hard interlaced strata

Abstract: According to the seafloor drill working conditions and the complex formation characteristics of the seafloor, this paper aims to improve the adaptability of the diamond bit to the formation and the coring quality. The cutter tooth design scheme of the impregnated diamond bit is proposed, and Fluent analyzes the flow field of drilling fluid at the bottom hole. The results show that the cone cutting tooth bit with the primary and assistant nozzles can directly avoid 85.33% drilling fluid flushing core and reduce… Show more

“…Cao et al analyzed the characteristics of two-phase flow field of a diamond bit for KM closed coring drilling tools with the method of numerical simulation, and put forward design suggestions for two-phase flow channel of the diamond bit [15]. Wang et al designed a set of undersea diamond coring bits, which can effectively protect the rock core samples, and analyzed flow characteristics of drilling fluid flowing in boreholes using Fluent software [16]. In literature [17], flow field distributions of a PDC bit were studied using finite element simulation method, and a PDC bit design method was proposed for drilling tight oil reservoirs.…”
