The booming demand for energy storage has driven the rapid development of energy storage devices such as supercapacitors, and the research on high-performance electrode materials, a key component of supercapacitors, has gained tremendous attention. In this research, phenolic resin-based multi-porous carbon nanofibers have been prepared by electrospinning, curing, carbonization and activation and then employed as advanced electrode materials in supercapacitors. We demonstrate that the material is nano-scale continuous fiber, and its surface has pore distribution of different sizes. It delivers a high specific capacitance of 242 F g−1 at a current density of 0.2 A g−1 and maintains 148 F g−1 even at a high current density of 20 A g−1. Moreover, it shows almost no capacitance decay at a current density of 2 A g−1 over 1000 cycles, demonstrating its great potential as high-performance electrodes in supercapacitors.

In this study, the three structures of the symmetric paper supercapacitors based on the carbon nanotubes (CNTs), graphite nanoparticles (GNPs) and graphene electrodes have been fabricated. In the supercapacitors was used of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/phosphoric acid (H3PO4) as a gel electrolyte and the BaTiO3 film as a separator film. The carbon nanomaterials, gel electrolyte surface, and electrode films were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The specific capacitance of the symmetric paper supercapacitors using charge-discharge technique and C-V curves at the voltage scan rates 20 mV/s and 150 mV/s have been investigated. The symmetric paper supercapacitor based on the CNTs electrode showed higher specific capacitance 411 F g−1, compared to GNPs and graphene supercapacitors. Also by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, the Nyquist curves of the symmetric paper supercapacitors have been plotted. For the symmetric paper supercapacitors based on the GNPs, graphene and CNTs electrodes the equivalent series resistance (ESR) resistance was 210 Ω, 96 Ω and 101 Ω respectively. The flexible symmetric paper supercapacitor based on BaTiO3/PVA/CNTs structure denotes a new type of the flexible supercapacitor that can be applied to the soft electronic.

Purpose This study aims to investigate the fabrication of hydrogen gas sensor based on metal–oxide–semiconductor (MOS) microstructure. The palladium nanoparticles (PdNPs) as gate metal have been deposited on the oxide film using spin coating. Design/methodology/approach The PdNPs and the surface of oxide film were analyzed using Transmission electron microscopy. The capacitance-voltage (C-V) curves for the MOS sensor in 1, 2 and 4 per cent hydrogen concentration and in 100 KHz frequency at the room temperature were reported. Findings The response times for 1, 2 and 4 per cent hydrogen concentration were 2.5 s, 1.5 s and 1 s, respectively. The responses (R per cent) of MOS sensor to 1, 2 and 4 per cent hydrogen concentration were 42.8, 47.3 and 52.6 per cent, respectively. Originality/value The experimental results demonstrate that the MOS hydrogen gas sensor based on the PdNPs gate, shows the fast response and recovery compared to other hydrogen gas sensors based on the Pd.
