Fluvial flooding occurs when a river overspills its banks due to excessive rainfall, and it is the most common flood event. In urban areas, the increment of urbanization makes communities more susceptible to fluvial flooding since the excess of impervious surfaces reduced the natural permeable areas. As flood prevention strategies, early warning systems (EWS) are used to reduce damage and protect people, but key elements need to be selected. This manuscript proposes the monitoring instruments, communication protocols, and media to forecast and disseminate EWS alerts efficiently during fluvial floods in urban areas. First, we conducted a systematic review of different EWS architectures for fluvial floods in urban areas and identified that not all projects monitor the most important variables related to the formation of fluvial floods and most use communication protocols with high-energy consumption. ZigBee and LoRaWAN are the communication protocols with lower power consumption from the review, and to determine which technology has better performance in urban areas, two wireless sensor networks were deployed and simulated in two urban areas susceptible to fluvial floods using Radio Mobile software. The results showed that although Zigbee technology has better-received signal strength, the difference with LoRAWAN is lower than 2 dBm, but LoRaWAN has a better signal-to-noise ratio, power consumption, coverage, and deployment cost.

Indonesia is a country that has unique weather that provides not only abundant natural resources but also can causes disasters at any time. To reduce the threat of losses, observing weather elements using a weather station is a solution that can be used. The development of systems related to environmental monitoring and weather stations is not new. However, most research focuses on various innovations in utilization, low cost and power savings. These studies have not touched on the aspect of ease of system development, especially in the concept of adding nodes. Indonesia, as a country with diverse regional topography, needs an integrated weather monitoring system with the concept of centralized data collection to get a complete picture.In this study, a portable mini weather station system was built named Amicagama. This system is built with the concept of high scalability which means the system is designed to be used publicly, with each user able to manage the nodes which are their respective weather stations. Management by each user here means that each user can manage weather data to be submitted, add nodes at a new location, and can delete nodes at a certain location if something unexpected happens.

The dangers of torrents and floods that taken place repeatedly in many countries of the world, Saudi Arabia is one of them, are impossible to be fully prevented or controlled. But it is possible to limit its effects and minimize its losses. That's by defining the endangered places and sitting suitable maps for them as well as conducting researches and studies that enhance the real-time flash flood forecasting and monitoring. So that, practical researches and studies are required specifically which can predict the risk before it happens to reduce its harms and damages and save humans and their properties. In this research, we will propose a wireless sensor networks for real-time flood monitoring and warning system. The real-time flood monitoring system based on wireless smart sensors measure hydrological data and capture remote images. The system determine the expected reaching time, affected zones and danger intensity based on hydrological and geographic models then it automatically launches the warning processes. This system warn people for the sudden torrents and their expected dangers in order to take the necessary safety procedures against its risks. That leads to save people and their properties and reduce the human and material losses that may occur. Warning process starts on the suitable time before disaster happens.
