Design and Analysis of Compact Periodic Slot Multiband Antenna With Defected Ground Structure for Wireless Applications

Abstract: A novel compact patch antenna with Defected Ground structure (DGS) operating for Wireless applications is proposed and investigated. This proposed antenna generates four separate resonances to cover 3.271 GHz (WiMax), 4.92 GHz (WiFi), 6.35 GHz (Space applications), and 11.04 GHz (Fixed Satellite applications) while maintaining overall compact size of 32 × 32 × 1.6 mm 3 using an FR-4 substrate commonly available with a permittivity of ε r = 4.4. The proposed microstrip patch antenna (MSPA) consists of a square … Show more

“…Also, defected ground method has been used to increase the bandwidth [18]. Antenna having slit and defected ground structure (DGS) has been also reported by S. Bondili, H. Prasad and V. S. Prasad in 2020, where the antenna shows a multi band operation with its operating frequencies at 3.271GHz, 4.92GHz, 6.35 GHz and 11.04GHz [19].…”

“…The authors, in their earlier works, have discussed the results of their preliminary works for achieving multi band operation by cutting inclined slit on a MSA and presented elsewhere [5,6,7]. Reported works includes use of shorting post [8,9], placing of stubs over the patch or feed line [10,11], using meander line along with the MSA [12,13], planar inverted, as well as various truncated structure on the radiating patch [14][15][16][17][18][19] etc. for achieving multi band operation.…”

“…Attainment of multiband is done by etching of inverted U-shapes and single fed mechanism. A defected ground structured quad band antenna with a gain range of 2.45 dB to 4.77 dB for satellite applications [16] is presented. Periodic square slots are etched on the ground surface to achieve quad band.…”

“…Slotted ground plane is accomplished by etching a flaw from the ground plane in a basic form. The ground plane faults will disturb the shielded current distribution, resulting in controlled excitation and electromagnetic wave propagation across the substrate layer [16][17][18]. Using the approaches described above, the proposed 2x2 microstrip array antenna is being constructed.…”
