Design and analysis of a novel piezoelectrically actuated vibration assisted rotation cutting system

Abstract: Elliptical vibration cutting (EVC) technology has been paid much attention as the unique characteristics of the intermittent cutting and friction reversal, but the residual-height between adjacent trajectories can not be eliminated. In order to solve the problem, we developed a new vibration assisted rotation cutting (VARC) system in this paper. The system has the characteristics of the pseudo-intermittent cutting and friction reversal, which greatly extends the tool-life, reduces cutting forces, and improves … Show more

“…Others [81,[189][190][191][192] displacements coincide with the points of actuation force in the above investigations [198][199][200][201][202][203][204][205]. The modeling procedure will become more complicated with multiple actuation forces, and when the solved displacement is not coincident with the points of actuation force.…”

“…Advances. The compliance matrix method can be recognized as an efficient toolkit for a wide range of compliant mechanisms with complex configurations [198][199][200][201][202][203]. Pham and Chen [198] employed the compliance matrix method for parallel compliant mechanisms, while this method was extensively used to analyze flexure-based precision positioning stages by the groups of Li, Xu [82][83][84]199] and other researchers [204,205].…”

“…The research group has published a paper on the detailed theory of the QVASC method. 26 This movement law significantly improves tool life and improves the machinability of difficult-to-machine materials. At the same time, it also raised new difficulties for the planning of the tool path.…”

“…Article [14] provides a complex overview of magnetostrictive actuators, including modelling and control issues. Examples of applications of these actuators can be found, for example, in publications [15][16][17][18]. The use of actuators that work on the piezoelectric principle for vibration suppression in two axes is described, for example, in articles [19][20][21].…”
