Auriol Degbelo,
Benno Schmidt,
Christin Henzen
et al.

Abstract: Interactive digital maps are useful for illustrating and analyzing geographic data and are used for diverse purposes (e.g., wayfinding, data journalism, data analysis, and citizen engagement). This article discusses the requirements of intelligent maps from three perspectives: the literature, a user survey, and a reverse-brainstorming workshop. The ideas brought forth are relevant to researchers and designers of digital maps as they incorporate innovative features and strive for a good user experience.
