Abstract: Recebido em 29/11/01; aceito em 27/5/02 DEVELOPMENT OF A LOW COST DEVICE FOR CHEMILUMINESCENCE MEASUREMENTS. A simple and low cost device (ca. US$ 150) that comprises two photodiodes fixed in lab-made Perspex flow cell is proposed for chemiluminescence measurements. The characteristics of the device (large observation window and reduced thickness) allow maximizing the amount of the emitted radiation detected. A sensitivity improvement of ca. 50 % was observed by employing two photodiodes for signal measurement… Show more

“…The light intensity is usually measured by a photomultiplier tube (PMT), 13 but simpler and cheaper detectors like a photodiode can be used as well. 18,19 The use of a photodiode detector and immobilized enzymes in flow systems present some relevant advantages such as simplicity, reliability, low-cost and lower reagent consumption. 18,20 Multicommutation is a powerful alternative to increase the versatility of flow-based procedures, in which discrete commuting devices are employed for solution handling.…”
