Descriptions of two New Genera of Parasitic Hymenoptera

Abstract: Brues-The Phorid Genus Platyphorz of America 79 Described from a single male collected at Forest Hills, Mass., May 30, 1910, by Mrs. C. T. Brues. The insect was moving about among fallen leaves in an open wooded area. Ants of various kinds are abundant in the vicinity and it is possible that the species may be myrmecophilous like its European congener, P. lubboci. Platyphora coloradensis sp. nov. o. Length 1.8 mm. “…Species of this genus have been described from North America (Ashmead 1893;Rohwer 1914;Walley 1941;Muesebeck 1922;Papp 1989) and South America (Brues 1912;Marsh 1979;Papp 1993). In Mexico, Mirax Haliday has been reported only at the genus level in several states (Sán-chez & López 2000;Wharton & Mercado 2000;Delfín & León 1997), but no species has been described or reported at this time.…”

“…The members of Lathrolestes are mostly known to be koinobont endoparasitoids, usually on leafmining sawfly larvae of the tribe Fenusini (Hymenoptera, Tenthredinidae). However L. clypeatus (Zetterstedt 1838) and L. mnemonicae (Rohwer 1914) attack leafmining lepidopteran larvae of the family Eriocraniidae (Rohwer 1914;Heath 1961;Carlson 1979) and L. zeugophorae Barron, 1994 attacks leafmining beetle larvae of the family Megalopodidae. These hosts have a similar leafmining lifestyle and are associated with deciduous trees.…”

“…Lathrolestes luteolator (Gravenhorst, 1829) attacks several species of Caliroa. There are species that are parasitoids of leafmining lepidopterans in the Eriocraniidae (Rohwer 1914, Heath 1961, Carlson 1979), L. clypeatus (Zetterstedt, 1838 and L. mnemonicae (Rohwer, 1914). cytochrome oxidase c subunit I (COI).…”
