First report of a Kudoa lutjanus outbreak in farmed Chicken Grunts Parapristipoma trilineatum

“…The Crimson Snapper Lutjanus erythropterus is the only farmed fish host that has been reported for K. lutjanus, with infection making it impossible to place fish in the market because of severely stunted growth and creamy white cysts spread throughout the body (Wang et al 2005). Other infected wild species have been found in the South China Sea, including Yellowfin Seabream Acanthopagrus latus (Li et al 2020b), Saddleback Silverbiddy Gerres limbatus, and Estuary Glassfish Ambassis marianus (Li et al 2022). This suggests that this area is a long-term reservoir for K. lutjanus, which may occasionally spread to farming regions along the coast of Taiwan.…”
