Abstract:Melon (Cucumis melo) and summer squash (Cucurbita pepo) are economically important cucurbits cultivated worldwide. New, better-adapted, cultivars, resistant to pests and diseases, and varieties displaying better quality traits are required to optimize their production and to meet market demands.
