Desalination technology for energy-efficient and low-cost water production: A bibliometric analysis

Abstract: Over the last few decades, steady growth in desalination literature has been observed. However, conducting a quantitative analysis of this literature is still a novelty. This study aimed at carrying out a quantitative analysis of desalination literature published during the last 30 years, using bibliometric and content analysis techniques, based on the Web of Science database. The bibliometric analysis revealed that desalination has received much attention after the year 2000, as 95.4% of literature has been p… Show more

“…WoS is the first broad-scope international bibliographic database and was previously known as Web of Knowledge and established by Eugene Garfield during the 1960s; and then later, in 1992, the Thompson Reuters company acquired it and changed its name to WoS. Since 2016, WoS has belonged to the Clarivate Company [ 57 , 58 ]. It is used for the selection of journals, evaluation of research articles, bibliometric analysis, and other tasks.…”

“…It is done by removing salt as well as other mineral components from seawater. There are many types of desalination process, but among all of these processes, the desalination technologies used in industrial scale are Reverse Osmosis (RO), Multi Effect Distillation (MED), and Multi Stage Flash Distillation (MSFD) (Naseer et al, 2022). Despite its significant advantages in converting seawater into clean water, desalination technology is still perceived as financially burdensome (Lin et al, 2021;Mohammadi et al, 2020).…”

“…Two articles addressing bibliometric analysis can be found in the seawater desalination area. Naseer et al [13] presented a recent bibliometric analysis of stand-alone desalination technologies considering the last two decades. The analysis was performed without considering renewable energy.…”
