Dermatoglyphics in von Recklinghausen neurofibromatosis

Abstract: We studied dermatoglyphic traits in 27 patients (12 males and 15 females) with neurofibromatosis type I (NF-1) to verify which characteristics may be considered typical of this disorder. The frequency of digital central pockets in the patients was significantly greater than in control individuals (P less than .005), but when we evaluated the sexes separately, the difference was significant only among females (P less than .002). The distribution of central pockets on the various fingers was significantly differ… Show more

“…The digital dermatoglyphic analysis in our patients is not concordant, the total finger ridge count (TFRC) being low in case 1 and high in cases 2 and 3, compared with the average count of 143.17 and 153.27 in females and males, respectively, in a population of southern Italy [Pallotta et al, 1989].…”

“…Other ®ndings included ®fth ®nger clinodactyly, small hands and feet, bilateral inguinal hernia, bilateral transverse palmar crease, short stature, hypotonia, and psychomotor delay (Denver Developmental Screening test corresponding to 4 months). Dermatoglyphics showed a total ®nger ridge count of 47, a very low value when compared to the average count of 153.27 in a male population of Southern Italy [Pallotta et al, 1989].This feature was also present in the father. Cranial ultrasound, and brainstem auditory evoked potentials were normal.…”

“…Nessa mesma linha, outros autores observaram um aumento significativo de verticilos nos dedos II, IV e V apenas na mão direita de pacientes do sexo feminino 25 . Os dados relativos ao aumento da frequência de presilhas ulnares em pacientes de ambos os sexos em comparação com os controles, assim como os dados sobre verticilo em pacientes do sexo masculino, estão apenas parcialmente de acordo com o que foi observado anteriormente 25 .…”
