Background: Dermatoglyphics can be utilised in clinical settings to identify those who are more likely to have impacted teeth. Additionally, dermatoglyphics looks to have potential as a non-invasive diagnostic method for predicting the presence or absence of an impacted tooth. The goal of this study was to look at the most common dermatoglyphic pattern in people who had or didn't have an impacted mandibular third molar teeth and see if there was a dermatoglyphic signature. Methods: A cross-sectional study with 180 participants was conducted (90 cases and 90 controls). The rolling impression technique was used to apply blue duplicating ink to participants' fingertips, which was then recorded. There was an increase in the frequency of the whorl-plain pattern in the right-hand ring finger (60%; p=0.028) and left-hand little finger (33.3%; p=0.009), as well as the loop-ulnar pattern in the right-hand middle finger (74.4%; p=0.024) in individuals with a predisposition to the presence of impacted teeth. Results: The left-hand little finger was found to be the most predictive for impaction in a forward stepwise binary logistic regression analysis. Conclusions: Dermatoglyphics could be used as a non-invasive sign to predict whether or not a tooth is affected. Its value comes in early detection, which helps to avoid the surgical problems that come with symptomatic extraction of an impacted tooth.

Aim: The purpose of our study was to investigate and find the association of dental anomalies with the dermatoglyphic pattern within three regional populations of India. Methods: The present study included 600 subjects. 200 from each population were selected randomly and examined for dental anomalies and their dermatoglyphic patterns were recorded. Statistical Analysis Used: The study was analyzed by a chi-square test. Results: One dental anomaly was consistently noted in all three populations. Out of 600 subjects, 40.8% had positional anomalies. Shoveling, congenitally missing teeth, and winging were seen significantly in North-Eastern (23.0%), Jammu & Kashmir (5%), and Western Uttar Pradesh (6%) population groups in order. The most common dermatoglyphic pattern seen in all three populations was an ulnar loop. Significant relation between shoveling and whorl pattern was seen in the North-Eastern population. The presence of rotation was significantly more among subjects with a whorl pattern. Conclusion: The study concluded that dermatoglyphics can be used as an indicator of few dental anomalies. It can help in identifying the gender, race of an unidentified person, and various diseases which are correlated with dental anomalies that can be detected earlier.

Fingerprints of 40 individuals of age group 4-18 years were sampled from Agyaram Kherbari L.P. School, D. L. P School and J.N. M. E school (Dhubri District) to study the pattern of fingerprints and their relation with dental caries as they may be associated with the disease and serve as a predictor for early detection of it. Analysis was carried out in the affected individuals and it was found that the per centage of ulnar loop is highest (23.75%) in females and also in males (19.7%) and per centage of lateral loop is lowest (1.25% and 1.24%), whereas the control had more per centage of ulnar loop in both males and females. The study shows an association of dermatoglyphic pattern of fingerprints and prevalence of dental caries.
