Dermal Peels

Abstract: Dermal chemical peeling is a very satisfying procedure for patients and physicians alike. Although not providing the ablation of deep wrinkles and scars that dermabrasion and laser procedures may accomplish, trichloroacetic acid peels usually result in few complications and rapid recovery. Patients can usually expect photographic improvement in their skin. The results are usually long lasting, and most patients do not need to repeat dermal peels for at least 2 years. Of all resurfacing procedures, dermal peeli… Show more

“…The recommended strength of TCA for off‐face peels is 20% to 30% 3 . In this patient, however, the authors used a somewhat higher strength peel with reduced volume and light application, because techniques such as vigorous application and the layering of several coats of acid have been found to increase the depth of TCA penetration 4,5 …”

“…3 In this patient, however, the authors used a somewhat higher strength peel with reduced volume and light application, because techniques such as vigorous application and the layering of several coats of acid have been found to increase the depth of TCA penetration. 4,5 The patient's chest skin was prepped with isopropanol and an even, light application of 40% (w/v) TCA was applied. Chest skin can be more sensitive to peeling agents, and more prone to scarring, especially with higher concentrations of TCA.…”

“…Acute post-inflammatory reaction stimulates cellular regeneration. 6 This agent has been used for non-surgical debridement and accelerating the healing process in necrotic diabetic ulcers. 7 In paralyzed patients, because of neurological and vascularization impairment, the healing process is complicated and using therapeutic methods like low-level laser therapy (LLLT) can accelerate the healing process.…”

“…The background mechanism is accelerated cellular regeneration following acute inflammation due to application of chemicals. Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is used as a chemical peeling agent in dermatology and cosmetic surgery (3)(4)(5)(6). TCA has also been considered for treatment of actinic keratosis, moluscum contagiosum, external genital wart, acne scar and skin aging (7)(8)(9)(10)(11)(12)(13).…”
