Derivatives of indole. 143.* synthesis of photochromic derivatives of 2-arylindoles

Abstract: New derivatives of 2-arylindoles containing (4-pyridyl)alkyl substituents at various positions of the pyrrole ring were synthesized. They react with 2,3-dimethoxycarbonylspirofluorenylcyclopropene with the formation of light-sensitive systems belonging to the photochromic dihydroindolizine class.Photochromic dihydroindolizines form a rich and varied class of light-sensitive compounds [2,3]. Among the multitude of photochromic materials they are distinguished by high their efficiency, their cheapness, and their… Show more

“…The multitude of approaches to indole synthesis, 6 as well as to 7azaindoles, 7 have been carefully and extensively reviewed. Much less attention has been given to the development of functionally substituted indoles which could serve as synthons for the incorporation of these indole systems into larger molecules which have useful photophysical properties 8 or lexitropsins which are capable of recognizing specific base pair sequences of DNA. 9 The latter compounds are also being studied as potential therapeutic agents.…”
