“…Medical device manufacturers were therefore forced to quickly find alternatives to DEHP to maintain the elasticity of PVC nutrition tubes, infusion sets, and hemodialysis lines. Several replacement plasticizers, the so-called alternative to DEHP plasticizers such as tri-octyl trimellitate (TOTM), 1,2-cyclohexane dicarboxylic acid diisononylester (DINCH), and di(2-ethylhexyl)cyclohexan-1,4-dicarboxylate (DEHCH), are currently incorporated in modern medical devices [8486].…”

“…Bis(2-ethylhexyl) terephthalate (DEHT) and DEHP have more toxicity as compared to DEHT and do not show any effect over production, genotoxicity, carcinogenicity and seem to be protective in the applications of infusion tubing stump [67][68][69][70][71]. Di(2-ethylhexyl) -1,2-cyclohexane dicarboxylate (DEHCH) was studied over SD rats for reproductive and developmental studies by a researcher [72]. Conclusively, it was reported that DEHCH posed a minimal effect over spleen.…”

“…The two main traditional methods for calculating RfD are the NOAEL/LOAEL method and the benchmark dose method (BMDL) [5,6], and the RfD value is derived by the uncertainty factor UF and the correction factor MF by these traditional methods [7]. These derivation methods require a large investment of time for exposure experiments on mammals [8][9][10]. Since the U.S. EPA issued risk assessment guidelines in the 1980s, RfD values have been obtained for only a few hundred chemical substances [2], so the traditional methods for obtaining RfD are inefficient and constrain the health risk assessment studies of chemical substances.…”
